17 March 1956 Mayor PW Wicker launched centenary celebrations for Port Adelaide Council from its office balcony. The Port was alive with parades, daredevil motorbike riding, industrial and commercial expos, and lavish floral displays. Crowds packed Commercial Road, dancing in the street ending the week-long festivities.
